Memorial of Reconciliation

A Place of Remembrance
and Reconciliation

We are committed to establishing a memorial in Warsaw –
in the spirit of understanding and reconciliation.

Our Mission

Why we act

Memory needs a place

The fate of Germans who lived in Eastern Europe until the end and after the Second World War is a painful part of our history. But memory needs a place.

Our goal: The establishment of a dignified memorial in Warsaw to commemorate the crimes against Germans from 1945 onwards.

We do not see this as an accusation, but as a necessary step towards the complete processing of history – hand in hand with our Polish neighbors.

Foundation

The moral foundation

Our initiative is based on the historical correspondence of the Polish and German bishops from 1965.

"We grant forgiveness and ask for forgiveness."

— Message from the Polish bishops

In this spirit, which refers both to the suffering caused by the German invasion in 1939 and the expulsion in 1945, we want to act. It is our desire to contribute to reconciliation.
